Patient Engagement Opportunities

Overview

Quality Insights Renal Network 5 believes it is important that patients be involved in their care, as well as in the work we do. Patients and families can actively participate in Network activities in different ways:

Patient Liaison-  Patient liaisons are often sought by the Network to act as a focus group in vetting new patient resources, assisting in distribution of information, and a resource for understanding patient needs. They are also a pool of people from which the Network will recruit Patient and Family Advisory Committee members.

Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC)- Serves as the voice of dialysis patients and family members, expressing concerns, needs and values of patients. Members often act as subject matter experts (SME) on workgroups that are formed to help in quality improvement projects.

Each of these groups drive change in the dialysis facilities with patients and families providing direction and actively helping the Network to improve the quality of care that all patients receive.  For more information on each opportunity, click the appropriate link below:

Please read the Patient Services brochure (PDF) to learn more about patient opportunities with Quality Insights.

RESOURCES

Kidney Community Emergency Response (KCER) National Patient and Family Engagement (NPFE) Learning and Action Network (LAN) is a partnership between patients, families, caregivers across the country, and the National Coordinating Council (NCC) to provide the patient perspective about efforts to improve emergency and disaster preparedness and response for the ESRD population. Resources for the N-KPFE LAN can be accessed at https://www.kcercoalition.com/en/resources/patient-resources/kcer-national-patient-and-family-engagement-npfe-lan/.

National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Peers Program: NKF Peers is a program where kidney patients, living donors, or care partners can connect over the phone with a trained mentor. Mentors are people who have been there themselves and can help others by sharing their experiences.
